Frequently Asked Questions

  • Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by delivering a small electrical current to each hair follicle through a thin wire. The current generates heat, which destroys the root of the hair.

  • Yes! When performed correctly, electrolysis completely destroys the hair follicle. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are needed to catch each hair at the right stage.

  • It depends on the area, hair density, and your hair growth cycle. Some clients experience visible results after a few sessions, but most require regular treatments over several months or years.

  • Only briefly — each zap lasts milliseconds. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick zap or heat, though it varies by area and individual sensitivity.

  • Electrolysis can be done on any part of the body, including:

    • Face & brows

    • Upper lip, chin, & neck

    • Chest & stomach

    • Bikini & underarm

    • Fingers & toes

If there’s hair you want gone, we can treat it!

  • Anyone with unwanted hair! It’s especially helpful for people with conditions like PCOS that cause unwanted hair growth, and for anyone seeking gender-affirming hair removal.

  • There is a time and place for both!

Laser is considered permanent hair reduction, not removal. It works by targeting pigment (melanin), so it’s most effective on dark hair. Blonde, red, and gray hair typically don’t respond well, and darker skin tones require specialized lasers that aren’t always widely available. Some clients also experience paradoxical hypertrichosis, where laser can stimulate increased hair growth in certain areas.

Electrolysis, on the other hand, treats each hair individually, making it the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. It works on all hair colors and all skin tones. Many clients use a combination approach, starting with laser on larger areas like legs to reduce bulk, then using electrolysis to address any stragglers.

  • It’s normal to experience some redness, tenderness, and swelling in the treated area. This should go away within 24-48 hours. You can use ice, aloe, or witch hazel to speed recovery along. Keep the area clean, avoid the sun, makeup, and heavy sweating.

Sometimes, scabbing or hyperpigmentation can occur. If it does, let us know and we’ll tweak the intensity of treatment!
